New Odwick video: THE TEST TAKER
Length: 70 seconds
A thought popped into my head of the worst possible thing I could be doing: sitting at a desk, filling out meaningless forms indefinitely. Doing work that seems to benefit nobody; only to gain their approval over a demonstration of my obedience.
Using that idea, I gave myself a challenge: to build a set for a video, instead of just using some existing location I had access to. Twenty-nine years of not building anything made something as simple as assembling a box into a massive challenge.
Now I’m over it, and ready for my next challenge.
I hope you enjoy this short film.
The iTunes visualizer on my girlfriend’s computer has been glitching out lately, and it’s the best mode I’ve ever seen.
Squares!!
MakerBot seeking web developer →
MakerBot designs and sells machines that print 3d objects. In my opinion, they are one of the most interesting companies in the world right now. They’ve had recent press in Popular Science, Wired, CBS Evening News, The Times (UK), and the LA Times. And, they are selling lots of kits to real customers. Take their pulse by reading their blog and consider applying if you’re good at making websites!
Time Out New York write about Francis and the Lights →
This writer met with a similar stonewalling last year, after inviting Starlite to the TONY office for a live taping. When asked to recite a customary plug for our music blog, the Volume, the artist shook his head and said simply, “I’m not going to read that.”
My #1 artist. Makes it clear that “no compromises” is a practical strategy.
New Odwick video: BOY, GIRL, CITY (PART ONE)
Length: 37 seconds
I wanted to play with the ‘wigglegram’ technique I’ve seen in many animated gifs online. The result is more of a series of photographs than a video, and perhaps feels a bit out of place as an Odwick video.
I’m beginning to gain confidence in my approach to filmmaking, gaining clarity on my motives, my goals. It’s really simple. I want to start telling stories. Not ‘making videos’ but telling stories in the medium of video (or film). If I could go back, I would make this video into a (short) story, but this motive clarity didn’t come until too late in the project.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the piece, even though it’s a bit insubstantial. We’re halfway through the season yet, and honestly I feel that I’d just been warming up until now. The next five videos might be where it starts to get interesting, or, at least, where my ambition leads us to a strange new place.

The iconic shot of prisoners exercising in A Clockwork Orange was based on this van Gogh painting!
“Woman Arrested With 106lbs of Credit At Croatian Butthole Cheeseslice”
Newspaper headline that appeared in my dream last night. This dream was so bizarre that it woke me up at 4am and I wrote down a bunch of details, then forgot it all until just now.
I’ve made two substantial ‘life decisions’ recently and the effects are rippling through my brain, causing old memories to bubble up, habits to dry out, and passions to reanimate. But the most intense part is the dreams. According to my Zeo, I got 3:28 of REM sleep on Friday, by far the most since I started keeping track. And it’s such fucking weird content I can hardly believe it.
